IFM Community Medicine partners with agencies that provide youth and shelter services.  Individuals in shelters are typically in a transitional phase of their lives and separated from any other support system, including their health care.  IFM goes on-site to these shelters and programs to offer acute health care and continuity of care during this transitional period.

Youth Programs

We operate a clinic two afternoons a week in partnership with Epworth Child and Family Services Teen Drop In Center.  Any youth age 11-20 can “drop in” and see our nurse practitioner.  Youth 21-24 can also be seen by appointment.  The program also involves health education.

Epworth Children & Family Services is a multi service agency that helps at-risk and in-need children, youth, and families motive toward self-sufficiency by focusing on health, housing, education, and employment. The youth participating in the residential, youth emergency services, foster care, or transitional living program can also be seen at IFM’s on-campus clinic.

CHMO welcomes youth who are runaway, trafficked, at-risk, or experiencing homelessness with unconditional love, absolute respect and a place to call home. CHMO operates a program that include emergency shelter, job training, and transitional living.  IFM operates an on-campus clinic to meet the youth’s health care needs while part of the program.

St. Vincent’s Home helps youth facing significant life challenges through love, security, and therapeutic supports that enable them to improve their lives, their families, and the community. Weekly visits by our nurse practitioner to address the health care needs of the youth in the St Vincent’s program

ECH offers a state-of-the-art residential program specializing in care for up to 55 youth, ranging in age from 6 to 18. Many of these young people have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect. Often they have a history of physical and/or sexual abuse, neglect, aggression, or running away.  IFM has partnered with ECH for twenty years to provide on-campus care and medical director services.

Founded in 1974 by community volunteers, YIN offers more than 50 direct service and support programs to children, teens and families.  IFM has been a partner in providing health care services to the youth served by YIN for more than a decade, providing on-campus health screening and consultation services.

Missouri Baptist Children's Home is committed to serving God by responding to the needs of children, youth, and families to make a lasting difference in their lives. Missouri Baptist Children’s Home provides ministries of hope, healing, and restoration throughout the State of Missouri including the regional campus in Bridgeton.

Shelter for Women and Children Escaping Homelessness and/or Domestic Abuse

Lydia’s House works in faith to end domestic violence by being a place of healing and a voice of hope for abused women and their children.  IFM became Lydia House’s partner for medical care in 2018.

TWSH has a mission is to empower women and families to rebuild their lives free of domestic abuse through emergency services, education and advocacy.  Each week IFM coordinates health screenings and a visit by our nurse practitioner to meet the health care needs of those at TWSH.

Room at the Inn provides immediate, temporary shelter to homeless women and families in the St. Louis region. In addition, we work with them to create an individualized plan back to self-sufficiency, including referrals to other human services agencies. Then we mentor them to improve their chances for success.

Other Programs Offering Shelter for Children

Crisis Nursery is a nonprofit organization that provides short-term shelter for children up to the age of 12 whose families are in a crisis. The definition of crisis encompasses a variety of scenarios; such as parental stress, domestic abuse, lack of utilities, etc. The Nurse Practitioner conducts wellness checkups and sick visits for all the children that are admitted to the nursery, many of whom have not seen a physician for a long period of time due to lack of insurance or community resources.  Dr. Campbell was recognized by the St Louis Crisis Nursery as their “Hugs and Kisses, Man of the Year” in 2010.
